Will it ever stop raining????? It had been raining for weeks and the Gulf Coast had been ravaged by Hurricanes. The government drew a line ninety miles north of the coastline. Get above the line and you can have access to services. Cohen and his pregnant wife were trying to evacuate along with everyone else when tragedy struck. Now Cohen has been living a solidary life, unable to move on, unable to let go, unable to live again, unable to forget.

Then once again, the worst happens. He is ambushed doing a good deed and is thrown into a world he never asked for. A world where a snake-handling preacher has women as captives, living in containers, and a hurricane is once again barreling down.

Michael Farris Smith writes desperation like no other. He knows it deep in his bones and it is clear in this bleak, unforgiving and hard tale about losing it all, redemption, and starting over.

This is not an easy read but like his others, it’s a good one. Well written, well thought out and full of intriguing characters. The weather is also an unforgiving character in this book as well.
