Eleven Years. That is how long it has been since Alisa has seen Jonah after that fateful summer night. She thought they would always be in each other’s lives. She thought that they would remain close; that they would reminisce about old times in their old age. Then a tragedy occurred, and things would never be the same.

Alisa and her son, Kyle live on a vacation lodge on a Scottish Island. Alisa has been living and working there since that fateful summer. Moira, Jonah’s mother, has provided her with a place to stay and helps with Kyle. Their lives are happy and calm, but one day, Moira announces that she has invited Jonah back to celebrate her birthday and Alisa can’t shake the feeling that things are about to change.

When she was younger, Alisa hung out with Moira’s son Jonah and his brother Callum. Then one horrible night, Callum died, and Jonah left town. But now he is back, and their childhood secrets weigh heavy on their minds.

Whew! Secrets are funny things. They can set you free and they can also trap you. In this book the characters have secrets that they have been hiding for a long time. What happens when they truth comes out of hibernation and secrets are revealed???

This book sucked me in, and I was fully invested in learning about what those secrets might be. I love tension in books, and I loved how the author incorporated it in this book. When Jonah comes back, the tension can be felt, and it flows throughout this book. I also liked the story was told in two storylines and as the plot unfolded, we learned more and more.

Then there is that TWIST at the end, it’s a big one. There are other smaller twists along the way, but then the BIG one is revealed, and readers will be shocked! Nicely played, Clarke!

Fans of Clarke will not be disappointed. This was my first book by the author, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
