The Padavano sisters (Julie, Sylvie, Cecelia, Emeline) are close and grow up in a home with love for each other. William grows up in a home where his parents do not show him any love after the loss of his sister. Basketball becomes his refuge and the courts his home away from home. When he meets Julia, she welcomes him into her life and into her family. What follows is a saga about relationships, depression, and family.
This book began very dry and slow for me. I struggled with this initially and by the 40% mark, I was enjoying the storyline but then I went back to feeling blah about the book. This was a family drama that is an homage to Little Women. While I enjoyed Little Women this one fell flat for me.
This book is well written and I appreciate how the author addressed mental health issues, I just didn’t connect with this book.
Others are loving this book and I recommend reading their reviews as well. This one just didn’t work for me.
