Librarian Sloane Parker becomes concerned when Arthur McLachlan, a grumpy old man who insults her daily, does not show up at the library. Deciding to check on him, she breaks the library’s rule of checking a patron’s address. Oops.

She goes to his home and finds him bedridden and hiding how happy he is to see her. She also meets Maisey his neighbor and they both devise a plan to help Arthur. But the plan will turn out to help more than him!

Sloane creates an book club (Lonely Hearts Book Club) and soon new members find the book club and friendships bloom.

This was a charming book about people, lonely people, giving people, sad people, helpful people, and their love of books. It is about human connection, growth, and community. As the book progresses, readers get to know each member and we see them interacting and being there for each other.

This book was charming and left me with a smile. Plus, this book will have readers looking up and wanting to read the book selections of this club (if you have not read them already).
