Charlie and her daughter Eva become social media darlings when Charlie posts a picture of Eva on Instagram. Soon their travel posts have gone viral. They are being sent adventure type products to try while out on their adventures. Eva soon becomes the star of “Eva Explores,” and has a big following.

One evening after an argument on a boat, Charlie wakes up to find Eva missing. That is only the beginning of her nightmare. After calling for help, she finds herself to be the main suspect in her seventeen-year-old daughters’ disappearance. She’s distraught and soon learns that she did not know her daughter as well as she thought she did.

Soon the book takes me into the I-did-not-see-that-coming territory. Seriously, I had no clue the author was going to take us in that direction. The latter part of the book ramps up the tension and sense of danger.

I enjoyed the mother-daughter relationship. I liked how Charlie struggled with Eva ‘growing up’ and wanting to spread her wings in another direction. I could appreciate Eva wanting to go away to college and readers get to read some of her college essays. This book also looks at how parents may not know as much as they think they know about their teenagers’ lives.

This book is told through both Charlie and Eva’s POV’s and through Instagram posts.

Thank you to Atria Books and Edelweiss who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
