Hal is struggling. She is struggling with the loss of her mother. She is also struggling to pay her bills. When a letter arrives informing her that she has an inheritance from a mysterious woman that she does not know, her interest is piqued, and she believes this may be the new start in life she needs. She is a tarot card reader who is good at reading people, but will the family members of the deceased be able to read her? When she arrives at Trepassen House, Mrs. Westaway’s estate, she has no idea just how interesting things are about to get!

This was a clever thriller that kept me guessing. The setting is atmospheric and gothic. The characters are quirky and devious. Hal is a great character. She is inquisitive, silently strong, and quirky herself.

I loved how the plot was built and like, Hal, I wanted to know what was going on and why she was named as a beneficiary. This was so well done and thought out. Ruth Ware was at the top of her game when she wrote this book.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration.

Well written, atmospheric, tension filled and mysterious.
