When I read a book by Alice Feeney, I know that I am in for a very clever, gripping and twist filled ride and this book was no exception. You will need to keep your wits about you when reading this book! This book is told in an interesting fashion and along the way what seems trivial or might not make sense, will be the thing that makes the most sense in the end! Now that I have confused you, let’s start at the beginning or is it the end?????

In the past, a baby was taken from a stroller at a grocery store. It’s devastating and Mother’s Day will never be the same again for several characters in this book.

The characters:

Clio, a psychologist living in a pink house, has recently put her mother, Edith, in a care home.

Edith is an eighty-year-old former department store detective. She wants out of the care home and relishes spending time with her dog, Dickens, who is brought in each day by Patience.

Patience is eighteen years old and works in the care home and sneaks Dickens into the home so Edith can spend time with her dog.

Frankie is a prison librarian who has not heard from her daughter since she ran away.

Four distinct characters, four backstories, two murders, lots of secrets, and one dog make for a thrilling, twist filled book that I could not get enough of. Alice Feeney has delivered once again! I love trying to figure things out in books, but Alice Feeney was one step ahead of me the entire time. Connections are interesting things. How one action can change so many things for so many people. What is also interesting is this book, its premise, and its characters! When things started coming together, I was shocked and amazed at how Feeney wrapped things up. So clever, so well thought out, and well written.

I listened to the audiobook and loved it. I thought the narration was fantastic!

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
