Noelle Tom finds herself in her own private ‘Groundhog Day’ after purchasing some dumplings who informs her that the dumplings will give her what she needs most. Then she finds herself reliving June 20th repeatedly. There are variances of course as she decides to do different things such as getting a haircut, going to work, taking the day off, etc. When she learns that Avery, another woman who ate the dumplings from the same vendor, is also experiencing the same day over and over again, she has someone to commiserate with. While stuck in the time loop, she meets Cam, and they have interactions every time she experiences June 20th. When they meet, he often asks if they have met before and they continue to interact.
Noelle, and readers, experience June 2oth repeatedly as the time loop just keeps going. This does get a little repetitive, but the author does do a good job of having new things occur each time. This was a highly imaginative and unique book which had a nice amount of humor, Noelle’s frustration over experiencing the day over and over again, romance, and some steam. Plus, there is plenty of mentions of dumplings, cinnamon buns, and other tasty foods that this book might have you craving some tasty treats.
The characters are likeable and charming. I enjoyed this book but with the repetition begins so drawn out, I was hoping ‘please let this time loop stop already!’. This was a unique concept with a repetitive meet cute.
One thing that worked was a twist toward the end of the book which had me going ‘ahhh, that makes sense’ which was a nice touch.
Overall, a well thought out, charming yet repetitive book about taking chances, friendship, family, and romance.
