Winter in the Scottish Highlands sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? The snow is falling, the sleighbells are ringing, people are drinking cocoa by the fire, some are hitting the slopes, some are ice skating, and some want a divorce! Wait, What???????????? Christmas at the Scottish Lodge is a festive, snow filled, close proximity, second chance romance book! The setting was phenomenal! The book is set in such a lovely winter wonderland full of holiday cheer, fluffy snow, and warm fireplaces. Too bad there is an avalanche – an avalanche of feelings when Mairi becomes snowed in with her ex, Jed Murray. They were madly in love once; will the magic of the season see them falling in love again????
I enjoy Donna Ashcroft’s writing, her well thought out plots, her choice of beautiful settings, and her likeable characters. With romance books, it is all about the journey for me. I enjoyed the journey that both Mairi and Jed went on in Christmas at the Scottish Lodge. There were many times I wanted to pull each aside and say “communicate, communicate, communicate!!!”
Snow is not the only things swirling through the air, secrets are swirling through the air as well. Not to be left out, there is tension and longing swirling through the air as well. I rooted for both characters as they as they both traveled along on their individual and joined journeys. I enjoyed their banter, their determination, and their knee jerk reactions to emotional moments.
Charming, wonderfully written, well thought out, and festive!
