“It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this?
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss”

– The Killers, “Mr. Blindside”

Lucy was just looking for a fresh start when she moved to Woodstock, NY, and met her next-door neighbors, Vera and John. She is instantly drawn to them and begins to feel safe and secure. She fled from an abusive relationship in Brooklyn and had hopes of lying low, but now that she has friends, the trio begins to spend all their time together. One day Vera lets it slip that the couple wants to pull a “Van Gogh” as they too want/need to escape their troubles. Lucy wants to be a good friend; she treasures their friendship, so she reluctantly agrees to help the couple stage an accidental death. But what happens when John turns up dead???

This was an engaging book full of twists and turns. This was a fun ride that grabbed me from page one and held on the entire way. The author did a great job of showing all of Lucy’s thoughts, insecurities, motives, etc. I loved that even when I thought I knew what was going on, Konen still had a couple of tricks up her sleeve. This was an absorbing page-turner that had the shocks coming one after the other at the end.

This was my first book by Leah Konen but it will not be my last. I found this book to be perfectly paced, brilliantly plotted, and a riveting page-turner. Konen also scores big points for pulling off her reveals without anything coming out of left field. I loved that everything was plausible and ultimately made sense.

Thank you to the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
