The Doctor’s Child by Daniel Hurst – Blog Tour 5/5/24 @bookouture @dhurstbooks

Shocking, gripping, fun, dramatic, and twist filled!!!!! Daniel Hurst delivered with The Doctor’s Child!!! Woohoo! I could not wait to get my hands and eyes on this book. As with the other books in this series, it turned out to be a fast and fulfilling read for me. What a fantastic and fun series this has been! It all began with The Doctor’s Wife and was full steam ahead from there! Reading this series has been a wild twist filled ride!

Fern, Fern, Fern has been such a fun, diabolical, and twisted character. I do so love reading about her antics and getting into her head. She can and does rationalize everything and anything. After becoming a mother to Cecilia, she has mellowed some and is living happily in France. She never expected to see Alice, the woman who dared have an affair with her late husband, ever again. Alice, the Doctor’s mistress, and her daughter, Evelyn live in England. Neither Fern nor Alice was anticipating ever seeing each other again. But when their daughters meet……..

I found this book to be an entertaining, fun, and dramatic page turner. As I mentioned I have completely enjoyed this series from the beginning. It’s a little over the top and dramatic but boy what a ride!

Would this work as a stand-alone???? Perhaps, but seriously if you have not read the previous books, do yourself a favor and do so. There was so much that happened, so much background, that you will be glad you did.

Shocking, dramatic, well written, well thought out, and fun!

One Long Weekend by Shari Low – Blog Tour 5/1/24 @sharilow @BoldwoodBooks @rararesources

I adored this wonderful, charming, heartwarming, and lovely book! I enjoy Shari Low’s writing, her characters, and the warm and support relationships they form with others. In my opinion, one of her strengths as an author, in addition to her beautiful writing, is creating characters that readers care about and want to spend time with them. The characters in One Long Weekend find themselves in heartbreaking and stressful situations which they handle them with realistic emotions, leaning on others for support, and trying their best to help others.

In [book:One Long Weekend|203098329, four individuals will find themselves in heartbreaking situations while also finding support through the kindness of strangers. Val lost her most valued possessions; Sophie took a chance and decided to travel in hopes of meeting up with the man who once proposed marriage to her; Alice suffered a life changing scandal thanks to her husband and sees an opportunity to start over; and Rory finds himself out of a job and a marriage on the same day. Each character is dealing/coping with major life events and experiences stress due to their situations. They find themselves connected through the pages of this book. I enjoyed each of the characters and rooted for all of them.

I felt for the characters, I rooted for them, I worried for them, and I cheered for them. I adored how the author showed the strength of friendship, family, and acts of kindness Although, the characters go through many things in this book, this book is hopeful and positive in its essence. I appreciated them for taking chances, being supportive, making sacrifices, and being present. Once I started this book, I did not want to put it down. If you have not read a book by Shari Low before, you are missing out!

Simply wonderful!

Black Crow Cabin by Peggy Webb - Blog Tour 4/30/24

Black Crow Cabin by Peggy Webb – Blog Tour 4/30/24

Black Crow Cabin: A completely addictive thriller packed with suspense is a gripping, shocking, well thought out, and mysterious small town thriller with paranormal aspects. I enjoyed the mystery, the characters, and the mounting danger on every page!

Rachel is a schoolteacher who is navigating life after the sudden death of her husband. She, her children, and her grandmother are living in a small town which appears to be picture perfect. Unfortunately, living amongst them is a “collector” who takes children. Rachel has heard the whispers of the locals, she has heeded the danger, but when a photograph is taken from their home and a tarot card is left in its place, she knows her children are in danger. Rachel calls Henk, her husband’s best friend, who agrees to come and stay with the family to keep them safe.

Readers are given the POV of the collector which makes for interesting reading. Knowing the thoughts, motivations, and goal of the Collector enhanced the story for me. Who is the collector? What has this person never been caught????? These were the questions swirling through my mind as I read.

I enjoyed the tension, the mounting sense of danger, the suspense, and the paranormal aspects of the book. The paranormal parts come in the form of “gifts” the women in the family have. This is the first book in the ‘Logan Sisters’ series which has me assuming that each sister will have her own book with the other sisters having minor roles as was the case in this book.

I found this to be a solid start for the series. I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out.

Three Drowned Girls by Emily Shiner - Blog Tour 4/23/24 @bookouture

Three Drowned Girls by Emily Shiner – Blog Tour 4/23/24 @bookouture

Detective Freya Sinclair is on the case in this unsettling, twisted, and shocking mystery thriller. When the body of a young girl is pulled from the river, Freya is determined to get to the bottom of things. Three Drowned Girls had me doing my own detective work trying to figure out whodunit.

Freya has a dark history. Her parents are serial killers, and she has vowed to do her best to bring other criminals to justice. She knew returning to her hometown would be hard, but she never imagined what would be waiting for her when she did. Freya is determined, hardworking, tough, and unrelenting. I loved her relationship with Esther, the woman who took her during her teenage years. Enough is provided about Freya’s serial killer parents to whet my appetite and pique my interest. I look forward to learning more about her past and her parents in future books.

This is an interesting and dark police procedural with a likeable character – Freya, Esther, Brad, and Candy. I enjoyed them and look forward to getting to know more about each of them in future books.

Although this book did not move as fast as I would have liked, I found it to be enjoyable, with a nice number of twists and turns. Reading about the murder of children is not easy but the author handled it with care, and nothing is told in detail or graphic.

I had both the book and audiobook versions of this book. I enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. I thought she did a great job bringing the characters to life.

Dark, twisted, captivating and well written.

The Call by Kerry Wilkinson - Blog Tour 4/20/24 @bookouture @kerrywk

The Call by Kerry Wilkinson – Blog Tour 4/20/24 @bookouture @kerrywk

Another gripping, shocking, and hard to put down book by Kerry Wilkinson! It starts with a phone call and ends with a disappearance! The Call kept me on my toes, turning the pages, and trying to figure out what might have happened to Evan.

It was meant to be a family holiday. Melody and her son arrived first joining her father, her sister, and her brother-in-law. Evan, Melody’s fiancé, called to inform her that he had landed and was on the way, but a little girl was in the road, and he believed she needed his help. When Evan never arrives, Melody is distraught and calls in the authorities. No one has seen Evan, no one has reported a missing child, no one can answer Melody’s questions. What happened to Evan?????

I found this book to be a fast read which did not disappoint. I enjoyed the mystery of what happened to Evan and read this in one day. This book had a nice number of secrets, twists, turns, and revelations.

Well written, well thought out, and gripping!
