The Couple Before Us by Daniel Hurst -Blog Tour 7/14/25 @bookouture @dhurstbooks

Gripping, thrilling, twist filled, and shocking, Daniel Hurst has delivered yet again with The Couple Before Us! Seriously, when does he not? This is the 19th book that I have read by Daniel Hurst, and he never fails to deliver a gripping, twist filled, entertaining, and well thought out book! Just when I thought I had this book figured out, Daniel Hurst delivers a zinger of a twist, and I left dazed and amazed!

Moving is never easy especially when pregnant, but Dionne, her husband Christian and their five-year-old son Kai have moved into their new home. It’s not the dream home that Dionne imagined raising her children in, but Christian is excited, and she is pregnant, so she goes along with it. But then she finds a note informing her that something bad happened to the couple who lived in the home before her family. Her husband tells her not to worry and that they are the first people to live in this home, but she can’t help but wonder if he is hiding something. Then another person mentions the couple who lived there before them before he is quickly pulled away….

Who is telling the truth? If someone lived there before them, why lie about it?

The Couple Before Us is full of mystery and a sense of dread. Dionne knows something isn’t right, but can’t quite put her finger on what? She knows that she is not being told the truth and is not willing to let sleeping dogs lie. The foreboding in this book was like a pot bubbling over the top as the tension boils out of control! I thought I had a handle on what was going on but them BAM Daniel Hurst threw in another twist and reveal. There are quite a few of them in this book which kept me guessing and turning the pages! Things get a little OTT in the best possible ways. I enjoyed the mounting suspense and sense of danger as the book progressed.

Wonderfully written, well thought out, shocking, and hard to put down!

Wayward Girls by Susan Wiggs - Blog Tour 7/15/25 @WmMorrowBooks @susanwiggs

Wayward Girls by Susan Wiggs – Blog Tour 7/15/25 @WmMorrowBooks @susanwiggs

Gripping, evoking emotion thought provoking and brilliantly written; Susan Wiggs has outdone herself with Wayward Girls! I love books that are based on true stories and Wayward Girls is historical fiction based on a true story. It is not always an easy read. I found myself getting angry about the abuse, the brutality, and the unfairness of it all. I was angry at those who did not believe or listen to the young woman and at those who perpetuated the horrific treatment. I was also angry at the nuns who forced the young girls to work hard, who doled out harsh punishments, and failed to provide any form of education. I also found myself being proud of the girls for the bonds they formed, how they formed friendships, and how some never stopped fighting no matter the consequences. I marveled at their quiet strength and determination.

This book tells the tale of six teenage girls: Mairin, Angela, Helen, Odessa, Denise, Janice and that of Sister Bernadette who worked at Good Shepherd. This book showcases the brutality, abuse, hardships, and horrific treatment of young girls who were placed in Good Shepherd, a Catholic reform school in 1960s Buffalo, NY. Their families had various reasons for turning over their daughters such as teenage pregnancy, being too provocative, too unruly, being gay or for catching the eye of a male family member. The girls were forced to work in a type of magdalene laundry. Many of their parents thought they were doing the right thing for their daughters not fully knowing the abuses the girls in this book would suffer.

I found this book to be beautifully written, well thought out, moving and gripping. I was glued to the pages rooted for the young women depicted in this book. It is evident that Susan Wiggs did a tremendous amount of research prior to writing this book. As I mentioned this book details brutality, abuse of power, and horrific acts. It also showcases bravery, friendship, hope, survival, and love.

If you have not read a book by Susan Wiggs before, do yourself a favor and read this one. This is the 23rd book which I have read by Wiggs, and I look forward to reading many more.

Captivating, evoking emotion, hard to put down and powerful. Wayward Girls is Susan Wiggs best book yet! Highly Recommend!

Every Mother's Nightmare by S.E. Lynes - Blog Tour 7/9/25 @bookouture #selynes

Every Mother’s Nightmare by S.E. Lynes – Blog Tour 7/9/25 @bookouture #selynes

It’s the call every parent fears!

Every Mother’s Nightmare is a well thought out, wonderfully written, shocking, gripping, and twist filled book which kept me turning those pages! This is the 12th book that I have read by S.E. Lynes, and she always delivers book after book!

Melissa receives the phone call that every parent dreads. Her 18-year-old Casey, is in the hospital after being found confused, bruised, and dazed at a summer camp she was attending. Why was her older brother Dan not with her? What happened? Making matters worse, a body is found in the woods! As the police begin their investigation, Melissa, her daughter, Casey, and her son, Dan will be questioned.

Whew! Just when I thought I knew where this book was going, S.E. Lynes threw in another shocking twist! This book is told in the time leading up to the assault of Casey, and during the investigation. I love how the author wove the events both before and after so effortlessly together each time providing readers with a little more information concerning the backstory and present-day events.

This book highlights a parent’s desire to protect their child and how they feel powerless when they cannot, how wanting to belong may lead some down dangerous and toxic paths, and the dangers of social media. I enjoyed the mounting tension, the pacing, the characters fears/concerns/anxiety, and the way the plot unfolded.

Thought provoking, shocking, twist filled and hard to put down! I had both the book and the audiobook. I thought the narrator did a wonderful job of bringing this captivating book to life!

Sophie Was Here by Kathryn Croft - Blog Tour 7/2/25 @bookouture @KatCroft

Sophie Was Here by Kathryn Croft – Blog Tour 7/2/25 @bookouture @KatCroft

Gripping, thrilling, shocking and twist filled! Sophie Was Here: A totally addictive and absolutely gripping psychological thriller is another captivating book by Kathryn Croft. This story builds slowly and normally I have issues with slow building books but I was invested in the mystery surrounding the house, the disappearance of a young woman, and the family that I just cruised along with this drama filled ride and before I knew it, things picked up and I couldn’t put Sophie Was Here down!

Emmie and her boyfriend, Charlie have moved into Forest Farm, Charlie’s family home which has sat empty for years. When Emmie discovers writing on the wall (“Sophie was here”) in the basement her interest is piqued! Emmie soon learns that Sophie, Charlie’s high school girlfriend went missing years ago. I love a good cold case and apparently so does Emmie’s and she begins asking questions around the village about Sophie….

This book is told in two timelines using multiple POV’s. This was a nice touch and provided insight into many of the characters’ lives from when they are teenagers and into adulthood. I always enjoying trying to determine whodunit and was shocked when the reveal occurred.

Families can be complex, and this family is no exception. There are secrets, lies, and gaslighting galore in this book. At times I wondered who could be trusted, who was telling the truth, and how much danger was Emmie getting herself into by asking questions that made certain characters uncomfortable.

As I mentioned, this book begins slowly as the author builds the plot and introduces readers to members of the family and village. I enjoyed when things began to get tense and individuals began getting uncomfortable. This book has a nice amount to twist which kept me on my toes and changing my list of suspects. There were a few reveals that I did not see coming and I always love it when that happens.

I had both the book and audiobook versions of Sophie Was Here, which made for a full immersive reading experience.

Wonderfully written, well thought out, clever, and full of secrets!

Good Girls Don't Cry by D.K. Hood - Blog Tour 6/25/25 @bookouture @DKHood_Author

Good Girls Don’t Cry by D.K. Hood – Blog Tour 6/25/25 @bookouture @DKHood_Author

Crack That is the sound of D.K. Hood hitting out of the ballpark yet again with Good Girls Don’t Cry: A completely gripping and totally addictive serial killer thriller!!!! I could not put this book down! From the very first page I was fully invested and glued to my seat while completely gripped by this shocking page turner! This book packs a punch and takes readers on a roller coaster ride of emotions throughout the book and I loved every second of it!

It’s prom night and the teens are dressed to impress and ready to party. It was supposed to be a night to remember but the night turns into a horrific nightmare. When their limousine fails to take the teen couples to prom, married couple, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy, David Kane, are called to investigate. They come across a grim scene when the limousine and 5 bodies are found. The females are missing, and the killer left no clues behind.

Jenna is working against time in more ways than one in this book. She is pregnant and near her due date and the clock is ticking as every second counts in missing person cases. Could this be the work of a copycat killer? This case has strong similarities to another case she worked. Who is the sinister and evil person responsible for the deaths and missing girls? Will Jenna, Kane, and the other law professionals solve this case in time to save the missing girls???????

This book was dripping with dread, danger, tension, anxiety, and atmosphere. Whew! This book kept me on my toes and turning those pages. I felt for the victims and the officers tasked with finding any survivors. The side/supporting characters are fantastic and always contribute to the plot and investigations. I love both Jenna and Kane and enjoying how D.K. Hood also showcases the3ir home life with their son Tauri. This provides a well-rounded view of the characters, their personalities, and their sense of community/found family withe those close to them.

D.K. Hood did a tremendous job of creating a diabolical evil character and her vivid descriptions had me feeling as if I was right there during the action as a silent observer. She really put me through a ringer of emotions while reading this book. D.K. Hood has the knack for creating a sense of urgency in readers as her characters search for clues and conduct their investigations. As with the other books in this series, there is great character development, intriguing investigations, and brilliant investigative work. I am already chomping at the bit, with my fingers crossed that I won’t have to wait too long for the next book in this brilliant and gripping series to come out.

Wonderfully written, well thought out, perfectly paced and hard to put down! If you have not read this series, you are missing out. On the bright side, most of the books in this fabulous series (such as this one), can be read a stand-alone novel.

*a Buddy read with Bec. Please read her review as well to get her thoughts on Good Girls Don’t Cry!
